Aged vs autoreg vs RDM Instagram accounts — which to buy for which job in 2026

Account types decoded: what aged, autoreg, RDM and immortal actually mean, their real cost-per-survivor, and a decision table for matching account to use-case.

The vocabulary, decoded

Account listings use jargon that hides the only thing that matters: how likely the account is to survive your specific workload. Here's what the terms actually mean in 2026:

  • Autoreg — registered in bulk by software, usually minutes-to-days old, no posting history. Cheapest, lowest trust, highest UFAC risk on first write.
  • Aged — registered months-to-years ago and left dormant. Trust score benefits from age, but a sudden burst of activity after dormancy is itself a flag. Needs re-warming.
  • RDM (Real Device Made / manual) — registered by hand on a real phone, often with a real SIM and some organic activity. Higher trust, higher price, lower volume availability.
  • Immortal — a marketing term, not a guarantee. Usually means very-aged (1y+) RDM accounts that have passed multiple checkpoints. Real survivability is high but verify the source.

The metric that matters: cost per survivor

Buyers fixate on the sticker price. The number that actually drives ROI is cost ÷ day-30 survival rate. A $3 autoreg that survives at 25 % costs $12 per surviving account. A $9 aged account that survives at 80 % costs $11.25 — cheaper per survivor and it produced revenue the autoreg never lived to make.

TypeStickerDay-30 survival*Cost/survivorBest for
Autoreg$1-325-40 %$5-12High-volume burner DM, throwaway parsing
Aged 3-6 mo$5-1070-85 %$7-13Main DM workhorse after re-warm
RDM$12-2585-92 %$14-28Higher-value funnels, longer campaigns
Immortal 1y+$25-6090-95 %$28-65Hero pages, brand fronts, anything you can't afford to lose

*Survival assumes correct warm-up, private mobile proxy 1:1, and human-paced caps. Skip any of those and every column collapses. Numbers from our own onboarding logs; your mileage varies by source quality.

The decision table — match account to job

  • Mass-DM volume play, churn-and-burn: autoreg + aged mix. Accept the loss rate, win on volume. Don't over-invest per account.
  • OFM / agency funnels where reply quality matters: aged + RDM. The Inbox-Primary landing you get from a trusted account pays for the price difference many times over (see reach → inbox chain).
  • Long-running brand pages / content fronts: RDM or immortal only. The cost of rebuilding a burned hero page dwarfs the account price.
  • Parsing / scraping only (no writes): cheapest autoreg. These barely touch the trust model.

Whatever you buy, the cookie import decides 30 % of survival

The single most common way buyers destroy a perfectly good aged account is a botched cookie import. Missing mid, stale csrftoken, or a milliseconds-vs-seconds expiration bug silently kills the session. Re-warming an aged account is not optional

An aged account dormant for a year, suddenly running 50 DMs/day, looks exactly like a hijacked account to IG's model. Re-warm for at least 24-48h (login, scroll, stories, a few likes) before any campaign action — the warm-up protocol has the short re-warm schedule for aged accounts.
